all while having a full backup as regular files (which are also copied offsite for paranoia reasons 😉). But at least I have fast and efficient synching to my laptop, desktop, wife, etc. So yes, it's a "stupid" setup in the sense that it synchronizes from server to client on the very same computer. In another container I'm running the seafile CLI client to synchronize my libraries. (It's all stored anyway on the multi-TB btrfs raid1). In one rather large container I have seafile server including the data.
(Those are full system containers that feel like VMs but are totally leightweight.)
On my NAS/server I have various applications in LXD containers. That's an important part of my backup strategy. On my NAS I have a second container with seafile-cli that duplicates the current state of all my libraries as plain files. Be aware that Seafile's internal storage is in an opaque format. They're sitting on a goldmine if you ask me, because the base product works exceedingly well, but I'd have a bad gut feeling to use it if e.g. Dependencies change in a minor release, reports of potential data loss are shrugged off or ignored, software distribution methods change (ir)regularly for no obvious reason at all, etc. With Seafile it's similar when it comes to mindset.

90 to 95% are fantastic and then there are the horrible 5% like telling you in your smartphone companion app to update the app by bypassing Google Play Store and downloading an apk. It reminds me of my also chinese ebook reader. So that's good.īut the devs have dubious management practices. It was (is?) the only(!) one that I found capable to (mostly) reliably sync hundreds of thousands of files, many of which tiny, with acceptable speed and ressouce usage.
